Earthwork on the Seven Hills

Excavation Contractors Cincinnati grades, clears, trenches and digs for homeowners, landowners and small builders around Cincinnati and Hamilton County, and out into Butler, Warren and Clermont counties. We take on hillside grading and slide repair, land clearing and lot prep, pond and pool digging, drainage, utility and septic trenching, and retaining wall excavation.

Cincinnati's hills are the reason we work the way we do. A U.S. Geological Survey report on landslides in colluvium found that Hamilton County's landslide damage ran to nearly $31 million in just six years from 1973 to 1978, and a single 1974 slide on Mount Adams cost nearly $30 million more. The slides formed in clayey soil weathered from the Kope Formation, a shale-heavy bedrock under many local hillsides, and many were set off by grading, cuts for construction, or fill placed on a slope. That is a short list of things an excavator does every day.

How we approach a job

  • We walk the slope above and below your project, not just the spot you want dug.
  • We avoid piling fill on hillsides and cutting into the toe of a slope without support.
  • Water from drains, downspouts and new grades is piped to a stable outlet.
  • We request an Ohio 811 locate at least two working days before digging.
  • The estimate lists clearing, digging, hauling, stone and restoration separately.
