A Planned Suburb Turning Seventy
Excavation contractors in Forest Park work in a city planned from scratch. Developers Marvin Warner and Joseph Kanter bought land north of Cincinnati that the federal Resettlement Administration had set aside in 1935 for a Greenbelt town, and the first homes went on sale in March 1956. Forest Park became a village in 1961 and a city in 1968. The 2020 census counted 20,189 residents and 7,856 housing units on about 6.5 square miles at about 879 feet.
Built in sections
Neighborhoods went up in lettered sections over several decades, so housing ages vary across the city. The oldest sections are close to seventy years old, with matching lateral and grading issues; later sections have newer pipe but settled builder grades.
Woods and parks
The city sits next to large wooded areas and parkland that were part of the original greenbelt idea. Lots that back onto woods often receive runoff, and curtain drains along the back line are a common fix.
Clay on the uplands
Upland soils are clay-rich and slow to drain. Regrading near foundations and buried downspout lines solve many wet-basement complaints.
Section by section
Because Forest Park was sold in lettered sections starting with the C section in 1956, two streets a few blocks apart can have houses decades apart in age. We look at the year your home was built and what it was built with before recommending a fix. Older sections often need lateral work; newer ones more often need grading and drainage.
